The Maximum Muscle Potential Calculator

Over at www.WeightTrainer.net they’ve created a little device to calculate your maximum muscle potential if you were to become a professional natural bodybuilder.

The calculator uses your height, wrist size and ankle size to calculate your predicted weight at whatever body fat percentage you choose and also your muscle measurements. The formula is created by researching the top natural bodybuilders of the past. It’s interesting to see what they predict, but it’s shattered my dreams of ever being like Arnie. :(

Maybe they could add a tick box asking if you’re using steroids! I’m not using steroids and never plan to, but it would still be interesting to know if I have the genetics to look like Arnold.

Here’s how they created the formula.

And below is my results.

107 year old says nutrition and exercise is the secret to old age

larryhaubnerLarry Haubner has reached 107 years of age and took the spotlight in the news recently for having outlasted his savings twice! But what we’d like to point out is that he claims his secret to living so long is nutrition and exercise. Up until age 102 he used to ride regularly. Sadly, due to a fall he had to give up riding but still tries to do resistance exercise regularly.

Although we don’t have any specifics on his diet or training, what matters is that he believes nutrition and exercise is the key to a long life, and based on what we know from research, it’s probably a good call.

So here at The Fit News, we hope you’re eating well and exercising regularly, because we certainly don’t want our average life expectency getting any lower!

Destroying the Industry Giants – JCD Fitness is trying to spread the truth about exercising for fat loss.

Those people that keep up to date on the fitness industry (like people who read The Fit News :) ) know that fat loss is all about calories, but that’s not what the industry giants are trying to tell everyone.

If you read fitness magazines or watch fitness shows on TV, you’d more likely believe that fat loss is about doing the right exercise, like abs exercises on a fancy plastic machine that can fold up under your bed, or a set of barbell lunges with torso twists and bench dips. We’ve all read or heard of these silly exercise routines, and sadly a lot of people believe that they are the key to fat loss.

Well here at The Fit News we like to see fitness authorities telling the truth, and JCDFitness is one of those who’s just written a brilliant article that anyone trying to lose weight should read.

3 Exercises For Ultimate Fat Loss

Despite sounding like a typical magazine style title, the content of this article is quite the opposite. You could even say he’s making a joke out of the current fat loss industry.

Here’s a short excerpt from the article:

Cutting Through The BS

No matter what anyone says, squats, bench presses, pink dumbbell curls or deadlifts are not going to make you drop body fat. There are actually no exercises that can make you lose fat, period. You can do all the movements known to man, stuff yourself silly and still never drop an ounce of body fat. If these movements were responsible for fat loss, every powerlifter on the planet would be ripped.”

So head over and read the article. And if you’re not in any rush to start losing fat, recommend the link to someone who is.

Is bare-foot running the next fad?

Bare-foot running may be the newest fad in fitness but it’s still in it’s early stages.

You may have heard of the Vibram Five Finger, a shoe with tiny little toe pockets to separate your toes from eachother. It looks ridiculous but they’re getting good feedback from those willing to fork out $200 to buy a pair. Apparently the sole of the shoe is so soft it’s like walking bare-foot.

While I don’t hear any podiatrists recommending these shoes yet, I’m keeping an open mind and waiting for the day that “research” will prove that they’re better for everyone, and not just the few people who bought them.

So back to the topic at hand, what’s the story behind bare-foot running and why is it becoming popular?

www.LiveStrong.com To help the public or to just make money?

If you’re keeping up to date with the news you’re probably already knowledgable about Lance Armstrong’s comeback from retirement.

Actually, his adverts are all over the TV right now! And for a good cause, because he’s still promoting the awareness of cancer with www.livestrong.org, but you might not be aware of his other project, www.livestrong.com (note the .com not the .org)

Californian Franchise Restaurants will have Nutrition Data Brochures

A new law that’s in testing phase in California will see popular fast food franchises displaying nutrition brochures for each meal.

Personally, I don’t like the idea. You wouldn’t believe how disappointed I was when they started displaying the individual items and costs of every item in show bags at the annual fair. It used to be a surprise! Now they’ve got every single tiny lolly worth 5 cents all added up to show you how much money you’re saving! Well, in a similar way, restaurants will be telling you exactly what’s inside the food so you know how much fat you’re going to gain by tomorrow morning.

It sounds like the government believes by showing this information, people will be able to make wiser choices when they purchase food. But I have a feeling it’s not going to work. You always see obese people lining up for cake or chips at restaurants while all the thin people sit back and finish their salad. They don’t care, if they knew the calories and fat content of the cake it wouldn’t change their mind at all, but we can’t make predictions just yet. Perhaps the Californian people are ready for a change.

I think Arnold would be better off building a bunch of free gyms in his name and promoting weight lifting instead!
