The biggest cause of obesity is EMOTIONAL EATING

Tom Venuto has just written up a nice article sharing some studies done on women who maintain weight loss and those who regain it, after a diet.

“They found many differences between relapsers and successful maintainers, but one of the differences stood out like a sore thumb… Relapsers were emotional eaters who lacked skills to respond to and cope with stress and unexpected problems.

That basically sums up everything he said, but something else worth mentioning is that those women who did maintain their weight after a successful diet were always conscious of their eating and body even once they had reached their goal.

Put simply, they actually wanted to be thin and to stay thing. The emotional eaters were lucky to have lost the weight because they don’t care enough about it to reach the goal and maintain it.

As always, Tom has released a book to sell to you which he claims will give you the awareness and knowledge required to maintain your weight IF you are an emotional eater. Whether it works or not, who knows, but one thing about Tom Venuto certainly stands true – and that is his primary book, “Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle”, being an absolute classic that I recommend everyone read. The Awareness book I just mentioned is included in the package, as well as fifty million other books on health and fitness. Apparently it’s only $40 as well!!!!

If I knew a heap of people would read this I’d put my commission link up, but since only a few of you will read this article there’s really no point, so head on over to the original article on emotional eating and then make your way to Burn The Fat to check out the book.

Casein is possibly the major cause of cancer in humans

Today Examiner.com had a write up on the causes of cancer.

What they’ve discovered is that Casein protein (dairy) causes rats to get cancer but other proteins do not. They also studied a famous book called “The China Study”, in which the authors claim that animal protein causes cancer.

Now if you ask me, this is quite a significant message. Protein from animals is obviously the major reason for so many people getting cancer. (excluding cigarettes and lung cancer of course.)

But the question you must ask is, why is this happening now? Well we know that cancer has always been around, but it seems to be rapidly increasing, so maybe something is changing in the protein?

You may not know this, but sheep, cows and pigs are some of the dirtiest creates on Earth. And they just so happen to be the most popular protein sources on Earth! We’ve all heard the stories about sheep having cancers inside them, and we’ve all heard of the meat inspectors having the most disgusting  job in the world, sticking their hands inside the animal to feel around for lumps and cancers. But guess what, only the animals with X amount of cancers get discarded!!!

My old housemate was a meat inspector and he said that you only discard the sheep if it has over so many lumps and cancers. If it’s under the limit, it’s good to goto the butches to be put on our supermarket shelves!

Unfortunately we don’t know if these animals have ALWAYS been full of cancers and lumps, but my guess is it’s pretty new. And my logical reasoning is the fact that we feed the animals differently today. Sheep and cows are fed with pellets and all kinds of processed foods. Perhaps THEY are the reason the animals are getting cancer and the cancers are then being eaten by US!

There’s a lot of research required in this field of thought, but one thing is for sure. As stupid as a vegan diet may sound, and as inconvenient it is for those of us interested in fitness, it appears to be the only obvious way to avoid cancer right now.

It might also be useful to point out that the author of The China Study claims that the risk of getting cancer can be lowered by regular exercise, sunshine and water.

www.CriticalBench.com and Vince Delmonte believe micro-tears in the muscle is overtraining.

Critical Bench is a website dedicated to strength training, power lifting and affiliate marketing. Vince Delmonte is the author of No-Nonsense Muscle Building, a highly successful bodybuilding book.

The latest article on Critical Bench was written by Vince Delmonte and he has something interesting to say in the article.

He believes that micro-tears in your muscles is a result of overtraining.

Overtraining in your muscle has been shown to:

  • Decrease testosterone levels
  • Decrease thyroxine levels
  • Increase cortisol levels

And can also cause:

  • Higher resting heart rate
  • Weak appetite
  • High blood pressure
  • Weight loss
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Increased metabolic rate
  • Irritability
  • Early onset of fatigue

So what we can conclude is that if we create micro-tears in our muscles, we have just decreased our testosterone, increased our blood pressure and fatigued our self, to mention a few.

The reason we find this fascinating is because the rest of the world believes that micro-tears in your muscles is what actually causes them to grow bigger and stronger. Without creating micro-tears in your muscle, you’re not going to gain any muscle. So does Vince have an explanation to this or should we recommend he change his book to “Nonsense Muscle Building”?

Beside this small issue, the rest of his advice is pretty good!

Protein Powder Manufacturers in Trouble with FDA

Quality Formulation Laboratories Inc., American Sports Nutrition Inc. and Sports Nutrition International LLC are in trouble for failing to report what their powders contain and for having a filthy manufacturing plant.

The following is copy pasted from the FDA’s official website:

The government’s complaint, filed July 1, 2009 in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, alleges that the companies have failed to follow current Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) by manufacturing and storing food under filthy conditions and in conditions that may cause major food allergens to enter into products not intended to contain them.

During a recent inspection, FDA investigators found that several of the companies’ products contained milk ingredients that were not declared on the product labels. In addition, the company failed to clean processing equipment between batches and control allergens in the facility.

FDA investigators also discovered live and dead rodents and rodent urine, feces and gnaw holes on bags of product.

So if you’ve found any black pellets in your protein powder lately I can safely assure you that it’s only mouse poo and if you continue to consume that protein powder, chances are you’ll get very sick.

The companies promised to make corrections, but they failed to do so. The complaint requests a court order to stop the companies and its officer from manufacturing and distributing the products until needed corrections are made.

“This company has consistently failed to correct filthy conditions in their plants and to make sure that allergens are appropriately declared on the labels, despite frequent warnings to do so,” said Michael Chappell, the FDA’s acting associate commissioner for regulatory affairs. “The FDA will not tolerate companies that fail to provide adequate safeguards.”

Congratulations to the FDA for taking action on these guys, now how about inspecting the gazillion other supplements on the market that have chemicals we’ve never even heard of. Yerba Mate Powder? I hope that’s not ground up mouse poo!

All we know is that omega 3 fat is good for you

That seems to be the impression the industry is giving us at the moment. “Research” is claiming that omega 3 fat does not just “possibly” help bodily functions, but “DEFINITELY” helps bodily functions.

The part they don’t know, is whether omega 3 “supplements” work or not, whether the source it comes from makes a difference, and whether we will find a problem with it eventually.

The biggest debate right now is about the ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fat that is ideal for the human body. It’s believed that we should have twice as much omega 6 fat compared to omega 3, but apparently the typical western diet includes way too much omega 6 fat. Supposedly by supplementing with omega 3 fat you can bring the ratio back to an acceptable level and reap a million benefits.

If you ask me, it’s not even worth worrying about. If you eat your meat, fruit and veges and stay active, you’re going to be fit and healthy anyway!

A friend once told me that the most valuable health advice he ever received was from a book written in the early 1900s. It basically said that to maintain a healthy diet you need to eat a variety of different coloured vegetables. The claim was that different colours meant different nutrients so by eating a variety of different colours you maintained a well balanced diet.

How many people are following that advice today? People are too busy trying to find excuses to eat junk food and supplements to provide the nutrients that the human body actually NEEDS. Go back to the basics and you’ll never have to worry about this stuff unless you have a genetic related problem causing a deficiency.

www.TheFieldJobs.com A fitness related job search website

The Field Jobs is a new job search engine that provides a nicely designed website for browsing sport and fitness related jobs.

At first glance it appears as though their jobs database comes from www.oodle.com, which comes from www.employmentspot.com, which comes from www.careerbuilder.com.

However, a representative for The Field Jobs has contacted us to say that they actually pull the job data from many different sources.

Quite a complicated process by the sounds of it, but at least it’s sorting out all the sport and fitness related jobs from the rest.

So if you’re looking for a job, check it out and see what you find.

Website owners can add Health Ranker to their Sociable Wordpress Plugin

If you’re running a fitness and health related blog on Wordpress you’re probably running a social sharing plugin like Sociable.

Sociable basically provides a bunch of symbols at the bottom of your posts, allowing visitors to share the blog post on popular social networking sites like Stumble Upon, Digg, Reddit, Facebook, etc.

Just recently, Healthranker.com was added to the list, so you might like to add the Health Ranker symbol to your Sociable plugin to take advantage of it. Other sharing plugins will most likely automatically add it to their list since the symbols are managed by their servers, not yours.

To see what Sociable looks like, just go into any individual post on this website and at the bottom of the post you’ll see the faded out symbols which become clear when you put the mouse over them.

Public opens eyes about steroid users

Studies have shown that natural bodybuilders are just as obsessed with their body image as steroid bodybuilders. This follows some ridiculous belief that steroid users are different to naturals. I personally didn’t know the public thought this, but judging by the fact that every news blog and his dog is writing about it, perhaps there WAS some common belief about steroid users being obsessive.

Perhaps people are starting to realise that steroids are not the dangerous murdering drug that the media and government make them out to be.

Having watched “The Union” just yesterday, it’s quite apparent that the U.S government is no stranger to criminalising healthy products and criminalising healthy people for using them. Now, I’m not saying that steroids are healthy (though they ARE healthy if they’re used to heal you from an illness), but controlled recreational use is not harming anyone.

If the U.S.A wants to hop on out of this recession quickly, there’s two things they could consider:

  • Legalising online gambling, and
  • Legalising the drug class that includes steroids and marijuana.

If you have any objections to this, you’re welcome to take it up with me in the comments below!
